Marine Radar Theory 1: MARINE RADAR PARTS AND THERE USE/ROLE

Marine Radar Theory 1: MARINE RADAR PARTS AND THERE USE/ROLE
RADAR : Radio Detection And Ranging

Main part of RADAR :

1: Power source : Supply necessary AC input to marine radar system.

2: Delay line : Stores the energy received form power source.

3: Trigger unit: send spike waves to Modulator & to display processor. No of spike per second is
equal to PRF [ PULSE REPETITION FREQUENCY ].

4:  Modulator : Device which switch the MAGNETRON  ON/OFF.

5: Magnetron: Is a high power Radio frequency Oscillator capable of being switched ON/OFF for
short duration equal to PL [Pulse length] . Magnetron generate radio  pulse of
electromagnetic energy and send them to scanner via a hollow metal tube called
                         WAVEGUIDE.

6: Scanner: sends pulse out and receive echos for target plotting of radar PPI[ Plan Position
                     Indicator].

7: TR Cell : Transmit + Receive switch . Allow only transmit a pullse or receive a echo  at a time.

8: Local oscillator : Oscillate Radio frequency to Intermediate frequency.

9: Mixer : Mixes the echos with local oscillation and make available to IF amplifier.

10: IF Amplifier: Amplify the IF signal and send them to video amplifier.

11: Display Processor unit: BRAIN OF RADAR

Function 1: Creation of rotating trace with in the circular part of rectangular screen.
Function 2: Making all other fuction available to operate the radar.
Function 3: Display of symbols and words outside and inside the circular part of the screen.

12: Display Unit : Rectangular area including PPI.
