WHAT IS MARINE RADAR

1 : The name RADAR stand for RADIO DETECTION AND RANGING
2: Radar is fitted on merchant ships on navigating bridge , the purpose of radar is as follow:

A:  Assist in safe navigation - An user can find all near target's information on radar PPI while
doing navigation and can safely travel along the area.

B: Assist is collision avoidance - An user can select target on PPI and  by knowing the data of
target  [CPA,TCPA] user can take early and effective action for collision avoidance.

3: RADAR gives a bird eye view on PPI around our own ship.

4: Radar work effectively in day and night time.

5: Weather effects the radar detection but same can be adjusted by controls given in radar system for example during rain a navigating officer can use anti rain clutter function to minimize the bad effect of rain on radar detection.

6: Radar is capable to detect all targets in sea and to plot all on radar PPI.
